I have received lots of emails requesting a tutorial for the pencil holders that I posted here. These are incredibly quick and easy to make.
As you are going through the steps in this tutorial you may click on any of the pictures for a closer image.
Supplies you will need
Top Note Die from Stampin' Up! and the Big Shot
a piece of cardstock 11"x4 1/4" scored at 5 1/2"
a piece of cardstock 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
a piece of patterened paper 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" optional
2 8" pieces of ribbon
sticky strip
a stamped image for the front of the pencil holder
Take your 11"x 4 1/4" piece of cardstock and fold it in half along the 5 1/2" score line. You will place this folded piece of cardstock on top of the Top Note Die. The folded edge of the cardstock should be about a 1/4" to a 1/2" below the top of the die. Run the piece through the Big Shot. You should end up with a piece of cardstock that looks like the piece on the left in the following picture.
Use the Top Note Die with the other piece of 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" cardstock and run it through the Big Shot.
This is what your two pieces should look like.
Take the single Top Note piece and lay it over top of the longer piece at one of the ends. You will notice that as you move the top piece around there is a spot, I like to call it the sweet spot, where the curves on the two pieces will meet up perfectly. This is where you want to glue the top piece down to the bottom longer piece. You should end up with a piece that looks like the picture on the left. Please note that I turned the cardstock over in the picture. The seems where the cardstock met up were easier to see this way.
If you want to add in a piece of patterned paper this is where you would do it. You would add the patterned piece of paper to the piece that you just attached. Which would be on the left side of this picture.
On the other end of your piece of cardstock place two double rows of sticky strip. I have done this with only one row of sticky strip but I find that it doesn't hold as well.
All you need to do now is take off the backing of the sticky strip, fold along the scored crease. The two sides meet up perfectly because they were cut together with the Top Note die.
I like to wrap two pieces of ribbon around the bottom of the pencil holder. I find this adds a bit of stability to it. If you secure the ribbon so that the ends meet in the front of the pencil holder you can hide the ends of the ribbons with your stamped image.
All that is left to do is stamp your image and mount it to the front of the pencil holder.
