Welcome to day five of the MFT Teasers. I have a really colorful and fun project to share with you today.
While I was in MFT land in May I attended Mona's fabulous Mixed Media class. During the class we created a canvas and a journal. I was quite happy with how my journal had turned out, but somewhere along the way I must have mixed up my Gesso and Mod Podge because the tissue paper that I adhered to the journal all started to peel off. By the time the journal made it home it was a real mess! LOL
I decided to redo my journal cover using a few of the new June products. The journal cover has all sorts of color, texture, and dimension. I really love how it turned out and I hope that you all like it too.
I started out by painting the cover with Salty Ocean, Broken China, and Weathered Wood Distress Paint. I stamped a few random Hexagon patterns from the Distressed Backgrounds stamp set. I used the Graduated Hexagons Stencils with some stencil paste to add a little extra dimension.
I spritzed the entire background with some MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist. To add just a bit more texture, I added some Distress Crackle Paint. Once the Crackle Paint was dry, I sponged Chipped Sapphire distress paint into the cracks.
I used the fabulous new Palm Tree Die-namics and some Sticky Back Canvas to create the palm tree. I painted the tree with Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo Distress Paint. Once the paint was dry I stamped the script text from the Art Expression Text stamp set on to the palm tree.
I used a couple of sheets of sand paper to create the sand. At the bottom of the page I used the Stone Wall Stencil and some stencil paste to create some stones. I sponged the stones with Kraft Premium Dye Ink. Once the sand and stones were in place, I adhered the canvas tree. Have I mentioned how much LOVE that Sticky Back Canvas? Love it!
I used the By the Letters Die-namics to spell out dream. I die-cut the letters in Smooth White card stock and I spritzed them with Lemon Drop and Orange Fizz MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist. I love being able to create the mist in all of MFT's fabulous ink colors.
The flowers were created with the Hibiscus Die-namics and Sticky Back Canvas. I painted the flowers with Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry Distress paint. For the centers of the flowers I used an Orange Fizz and Razzle Berry buttons along with some Hemp Cord. I covered the palm tree and the hibiscus flowers with a light coating of the new MIX-ables Sheer Sparkle Glitter Glaze.
That's it for me today. I hope you enjoyed my art journal cover. I am really looking forward to experimenting with different mixed media projects in the future.
