I am playing along with the Mixed Media Color Challenge again today. This week's color combination is orange, yellow, and Kraft or Brown. Perfect colors for another fall creation.
I've received lots of questions about the mixed media projects that I have created over the past few months, so I have created a step by step tutorial to share the process with you.
Let's take a look at the card first and then I'll explain the steps involved.
I started out with a piece of Smooth White card stock. I applied a coat of Gesso to the card stock. Once the Gesso was dry, I applied some tissue randomly to the card stock using Mod Podge.
Once the Mod Podge was dry, I applied some color using Gelatos. I used Banana, Chocolate, Mango, and Tangerine.
Using a paint brush and water I blended the Gelatos on the card stock. I added a bit more color to the spots that were a little light.
I adhered Magic Mesh along the left side of the card stock using Mod Podge.
I let the piece dry for a little while and then I added the butterflies. I used the Winged Beauties Stencil and embossing paste. I actually cut this stencil into individual butterflies to make it easier to position them on the card stock.
Once the butterflies were dry, I painted them with Distress Paint. I used Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, and Mustard Seed paint.
Once the paint was dry, I added a light layer of Sheer Sparkle Glitter Glaze to the butterflies.
As you can see, Mixed Media can get a bit messy and there are a number of steps involved, but it is a ton of fun! I encourage you to try it out for yourself.
